In-situ laser Raman spectroscopy for the decomposition of acetal

The Raman system was applied to a fast chemical reaction (milliseconds) within a microchannel with 0.4 mm width. DMP (2,2-Dimethoxypropane, acetal) reacts with water and hydrochloric acid in a T-shaped micromixer to acetone and methanol. Because of the good stationary conditions, time resolution can be replaced by space resolution (15 µm).

The diagram shows the concentration distribution of DMP, methanol and acetone across the whole channel width.
